The Meteorology of Tour #5

Our mid-June tour is based in Denver and is scheduled during the most active period for tornadoes on the Central and High Plains of Tornado Alley.  Typical chase territory includes the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.  The highest concentration of tornadoes during this time occurs in eastern Colorado and surrounding areas, on an annual basis.  Clear, pristine air is common on the High Plains allowing for exceptional visibility.  Some of the most photogenic tornadoes and supercells have been captured in this area.

Some noteworthy mid-June events intercepted by our staff include:

NW Iowa, June 11, 2004, 7 tornadoes.
Benson/Pennock, MN, June 11, 2001.
