Tour #4  Thermodynamics Tour  When the Plains are primed for tornadoes.
This is the period for explosive "loaded gun" tornado scenarios.
6 days of storm chasing/7 nights lodging.  Depart from and return to Oklahoma City.

Base City: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Oklahoma City is located in the heart of Tornado Alley.  Famous weather venues are located in nearby Norman, home to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, Storm Prediction Center and the OU School of Meteorology.  Allow extra time to see Oklahoma City prior to and after your tour!

Our Oklahoma City base hotel offers a free airport shuttle, complimentary continental breakfast,  exercise room and swimming pool.  Nearby attractions include: Fairgrounds, Myriad Convention Center, Downtown, Remington Race track, Cowboy Hall of Fame, OKC Zoo, Frontier City, 89ers Baseball and White Water Bay.

The Meteorology of Tour #4

This tour is scheduled during a very active portion of the storm season in Tornado Alley, when thermodynamics are well-established.  These parameters lead to explosive "loaded gun" scenarios capable of producing spectacular supercell thunderstorms and significant tornadoes.

Some noteworthy events intercepted by our staff during this period include:

Lamesa, TX, June 3, 1995, sculpted supercell and small tornado.
Almena, KS, June 3, 1999, large tornado.
Idalia, Colorado, June 4, 1994, large tornado.
Mullen and Thedford, NE, June 4, 1999.
Pampa, TX, June 8, 1995, strong tornado tracked through town (F3).
Hoover, TX, June 8, 1995, large tornado passes near prison, removes asphalt from road (F5).
Luther, OK, 08 June 1974, large tornado near I-44.
Farmers Valley, TX, June 9, 1995.
Atkinson, NE, three tornadoes, June 9, 2003.
June 11, 2004, Webb, Iowa storm and Ft. Dodge, Iowa area tornadoes (7 tornadoes).
May 30, 2005 Des Moines, New Mexico (1 tornado).
June 4, 2005 Severy, Kansas (1 tornado).
June 7, 2005 Wanblee, South Dakota (3 tornadoes).

Our goal is to intercept the best storm of the day anywhere on the Great Plains, from Texas to the Dakotas, and from the Rocky Mountains to the Mississippi River.

The map below depicts average annual significant tornado activity (F2 or greater), for late May/early June.
