TEMPEST TOURS LAUNCHES STORM CHASING ADVENTURES

Tours unite nation's top storm chasers with people fascinated by severe weather.

ARLINGTON, Texas  - Tempest Tours, Inc. has announced its storm chasing expeditions for Spring 2001.  Tempest Tours brings together the nation's most experienced storm chasers with people from around the world fascinated by weather.  A skilled team will educate guests on a 10-day hands-on adventure about the many facets of storm chasing including the meteorology, logistics, technology and romance of the discipline.

Twelve Tempest Tour guests will begin their tour in one of two base cities, Oklahoma City or Denver, and travel through the Tornado Alley states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico in search of nature's most spectacular weather.

Tours, beginning in early May, combine forecasting the most significant weather in the region with the thrill of the chase.  Veteran storm chaser and climatologist William T. Reid, and a staff of experienced chasers will lead each of the five tours.

Dr. Charles Doswell, research meteorologist with the National Severe Storms Laboratory and one of the top tornado scientists in the world, will accompany the one-time only "Lecture Series Tour" in late June.  This unique tour will present an informal, yet comprehensive discussion on storm chasing.  No other storm chase touring company brings this caliber of scientists and storm chasers together to interact with novice weather enthusiasts.

"Our mission is to introduce the meteorology, logistics and safe practices used in storm chasing to people wanting a better understanding of our unique pursuit," said Tempest Tours president and founder, Martin Lisius.  "We want to take the Hollywood hype out of storm chasing and make our experience accessible to those wanting to learn the real story," Lisius said.  Lisius is one of the nation's most active storm chasers and chairs the Texas Severe Storms Association (TESSA), a leader in severe weather education.  Many Americans know Lisius best as the tornado tracker who dodges debris in the Chevy S-10 "Storm Chaser" TV commercial which began airing nationally in 1999.
