STORM CHASING TOUR GROUP TO DELIVER THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME
ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas-based Tempest Tours Storm Chasing Expeditions will offer its guests the adventure of a lifetime when the tour group begins operations this spring. The company, headed by three veteran storm chasers, will lead five tours into Tornado Alley in search of nature's most spectacular weather. Tornado Alley is a region in the US that stretches from Texas northward to the Dakotas. More tornadoes occur there than anywhere else on earth.
"Our mission is to introduce both the science and romance of storm chasing to guests," said Tempest Tours founder and president Martin Lisius. "The essence of storm chasing has never been captured accurately in the movies. Our discipline is much more dimensional than what Hollywood has thrown onto the screen. There are the hours of forecasting that we conduct each day, the logistics, the beauty of the Great Plains, and the unique characteristics of each storm we intercept. The only way to experience it is to actually do it, to see the incredible dynamics in action firsthand and to smell the sweetness of the rain," he said.
The Tempest Tours team is comprised of Lisius, tour director William T. Reid and guide Dr. Charles Doswell, III. Together, they have amassed more than 50 years of storm chasing experience. Lisius is best known for his high quality motion picture footage of storms and the founding of StormStock, the world's largest storm footage library. Reid is a climatologist and respected storm chaser. And, Dr. Doswell is a former researcher with the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, Oklahoma and is consider one of the top tornado scientists in the world.
"We can't guarantee that guests will actually witness a tornado," Lisius said. "But we can promise them the opportunity to live the life of a real storm chaser for a few days. That in itself is an adventure of a lifetime for many of them," he said.
Tempest Tours will operate five tours in May and June, the peak of tornado activity in the US. Tours will depart from Oklahoma City and Denver. Tour fees range from $1,900.00 to $2,900.00 per person for 7 and 10 days of storm chasing. Information, including tour schedule, can be accessed on-line at http://www.tempesttours.com.
